Oopsies

This week has been full of 'oopsies'. Most notable oopsies: my hair. I had to pick up more bleach to dye it a third time, to get that nice white-blonde color. Well, because Olin was along for the trip (always blaming the tiny humans) I felt pretty rushed and just kinda picked up a toner without double checking it. Yeahh large oopsies. I picked up a 'light ash blonde' instead of the 'lightest ash blonde'. Doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference? Well it did. I now have some nice grey-ish, yellow-ish, ash-ish blonde hair. It doesn't look that grey in the pics, I think because my curtain is gold, but it is pretty 'ash-ish'. I'm not saying it looks bad, per se, but it is definitely not the color I was going for. Guess I'll have to bleach it or tone it or maybe, just maybe, get it professionally done again.

Another oopsies: I talked Matt into juicing with me this week, and we have both been good, except for yesterday. Yesterday was pretty stressful-- tiny human is sick, dealing with family drama, not sleeping well blah blah, so, I ate a hot dog. And no, it wasn't in juice form (that would be so delicious though right? not). Oopsies.

This weekend, today actually, I'm leaving to head for the beautiful Oregon coast to go to a girlfriends bachelorette shower. There have been lots of these lately, but none at the coast when the weather is actually still some semblance of warm,  so I'm pretty excited. Not only do I get to have a fun filled, girls night away from home, but I get to play with my new camera and get wasted! Horray! Don't worry though, I wont jeopardize my new camera with my drunkenness.

Herb-Rubbed Salmon W/ Bell Pepper & Onion

Herb-rubbed salmon with bell pepper & onion. As made/created by Matt.

Ingredients:
salmon
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 cup chopped green onion
1/2 green bell pepper - chopped
1/4 onion - chopped

Seasonings:
lemon pepper with herbs
coriander
cumin
ground ginger
salt
pepper
garlic salt
thyme
pre-mixed seafood melody of herbs

Directions: Let salmon sit on counter for 20 mins to remove chill & reducing cooking time (Matt says: 'some website said to do that'). Heat oven to 475 degrees.  Rub salmon with herbs to taste (basically, it's guestimation work here). Cover with chopped green onions. Place butter & mayonnaise in oven safe dish. Put dish in oven for 5 minutes. Take out dish, place chopped onion and bell pepper on top of melted mayo and butter. Place salmon (herb side down) on top of everything. Bake salmon for 5 minutes. Take out, then peel skin off. If skin does not easily peel off, put back in oven for 2 additional minutes. Then salt and pepper back side of salmon, flip it over and bake for 5 more minutes. Take out and enjoy melt-in-your-mouth salmon!

Add lemon wedges for additional flavoring to the salmon and a side salad. Serve with Grenache Rose wine, which goes great with fish.

Stuff & Things

Per usual, here is an update about all the stuff that has been going on in my life as of late-- specifically this past week/weekend. I totally dropped the ball (again) and didn't do a 'Sustainable-Saturday' post, but I don't feel too lousy about it.. there will be more Saturdays and more sustainable stuff in the future, I promise. Seriously. Serrrioousssllly.

Fun stuff:

I did finally make a choice and bought a digital slr camera! I chose the Nikon d5100, for those wondering, and it should be here any day now! With the purchase of this camera came the weird sense that I'm really doing this... I mean, I'm really taking this blogging thing seriously and hopefully, my pictures and quality of photos will reflect that.

We went to my friends wedding and it was beautiful! I just love me a good wedding.

We ate at B.J. Willy's Woodfired Pizza and Pub when Matts mom came to visit, The food, service, and even the view (out to a pond) was great. We walked down to the pond after eating.

Olin had his first swim lesson! For some reason, and keep in mind this is his very first lesson/group activity/kid activity outside of the house thing that he has done, I feel like he is all the sudden grown up. I mean he's gonna be in high school soon then college then having a family of his own in no time!!!! Okay... so maybe it will take a few years for all that to come to fruition, but for some reason, with the start of this class, I feel like we/he have entered a new chapter... he's becoming a real... kid?!
Lastly, Matt cooked! He's been doing lots of that recently and as it turns out, he's a pretty fantastic cook. I'll post his salmon recipe tomorrow.

Currently Coveting: Everything Teal & Teal-ish

Teal has always been a favorite color of mine. It's probably the vintage-ie/ 50's quality that draws me to this particular color. Whatever it is, here are some awesome things in all different shades of teal.

It's Time...

I think it's time. Time to buy a for-reals, non iPhone camera. It's time to invest in a digital slr camera. But, this is such a big investment (lets be real, for me anything more than $100 is a big investment)! I want to know what other people/bloggers are using/ love.
I've currently got my eyes set on this Canon Rebel T3i 600D camera:

$900 is my cap.. geez, I mean, I never though I would even spend that much on a camera. I guess I've still got a bit of sticker shock going on. I think it will be a worthy investment though, seeing as my picture taking numbers have been increasing exponentially lately. Anyways, what are you using? What beginner-ish digital slr would you recommend? Thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)

Past Weekend + Things to Come

So, I've been a little under the weather the past few days. **cough, cough** See? Totally sick. Today I'm feelin' a little more myself and not so couch-bound & crummy.
This past weekend, however, was simply amazing! Matt played a show (it's been a while), I got to see many of my lady loves at my friends bachelorette party and of course, I spent lots of time with my favorite tiny human.
I am also doing something a little different this month and participating in Copycats, as seen on Sarah's blog: Frills For Thrills, where the last friday of every month, you copy a look you find online and make an outfit post about it. Also, because that is on Friday, I'm going to start dong a 'Sustainable Saturdays' post. Granted, ever since vacation, I've been slackin' in the 'Eco-friendly Friday' area, but I'll make good this week with a brand new Sustainable Saturday post :)

Things Olin did:

So many exciting things are happening this month! Friends are getting married & having babies. Olin is taking his first swimming class! Matt's starting up another school year. Awesome holidays are coming up and this hot yucky weather is going bye-bye haha. Hooray for September!

Things Tiny Humans Do + Other Stuff

Tiny humans are sometimes found lying next to large windows/glass sliding doors, watching the cars go by as they sing them a sweet tune:

Also, my hair is en-route to becoming a nice light ash blonde. Apparently, dying it from red to the lightest blonde is a much more lengthly process than I thought. I've dyed my hair plenty of times and felt comfortable bleaching it myself-- though this time, I did wise up and buy professional products and supplies instead of a box kit.

Stuff I used:

Hair progression:

I think I'll need to bleach it one last time (though I'm going to wait a while, because my scalp is still burnt as all hell) to get just the right color.

Matt's band also is playing a show tonight, and I'm so excited for him! His band has had a rough few years, with different players and is just now getting back in the groove (literally) and playing some live shows.

Finally, speaking of bands, we have been totally obsessed with this band as of late:
